It was created in a redistribution before the 2002 state election, replacing the abolished electorate of Tullamarine.

Included within its boundaries are Attwood, Bulla, Craigieburn, Gladstone Park, Greenvale, Kalkallo, Mickleham, Oaklands Junction and Yuroke, as well as parts of Roxburgh Park, Somerton, Tullamarine and Westmeadows.
